Do Your Kids Understand When You Say It’s Not Christmas Yet?

[This is a back issue of one of this site’s newsletters]

Christmas is around the corner!

If you have young kids at home, try setting up an Advent Calendar.

This is a countdown towards Christmas Day – your child opens one window or box each day, starting on the 1st of December, and ending on the 25th.

When I was blogging for Spoonful.com I put together a gallery of creative Advent Calendars to make, including a link to the printable Advent calendar on Dr Mike’s Math Games for Kids.

Here’s a few reason why advent calendars are great for young kids:

  • It teaches them counting
  • It teaches them calendars
  • It helps prevent them asking every day “is it Christmas yet?”
  • It teaches them that Christmas doesn’t come earlier just because they open extra windows on the Advent Calendar!
